Would they wear that? Moto

First off, we here at Sew Cool for the Tween Scene want to say THANK YOU to all of our guest posts and to all of the blogaversary wishes! We so much appreciative the support from all of you!  Thank you also for the congratulations on the making the Top 50 blogs for Sewing Enthusiasts List and for voting for us (which if you haven't yet but still want to vote, you can here)  It's been a fun week for us here.
Now on to our next installment of:
series for tween fashion

A big trend for Fall 2014 is supposed to be the "moto" look.  For all of us non-slang users, that is the motorcycle/biker look.  I did not know this was a trend because to me the moto jacket is pretty much a tough girl classic.  But, since they are showing up on the runways in various forms, I guess it is more trendy this year.

Especially for our kids that don't want to look like little anymore, this is a fun way to make an outfit more grown up but not inappropriate.
Some designers of children's wear are also getting in on this trend.

How about Moto in Leather Skirt form--Pale Cloud
I think this is a great look for boys or girls.  And how cool would you be if you sewed moto jackets???

But the big question is, would your tween wear it?

Tinley Tee Tour

Do you need a great go-to Tee pattern?  Well Chelsea over at GYCT has just released her Tinley Tee and it is a winner!
The Good--It is a very easy pattern, coming together in under an hour. It goes up to size 12. It has 4 sleeve options and 2 hem options (I used the flutter sleeves, with a lettuce ruffle hem, and a hem band), to get you through all seasons.  And all you need is some knit fabric.  On top of that, both my girls say the shirt is super comfortable and fits just right.  (I made one for Clara, which you can read about here)

For Sophia's shirt I used up some left over scraps of knit I had laying around. Then we added the dragonfly with a freezer paper stencil. She wore it to school the next day and said she got so many compliments.  That's always a nice pat on my back:)
The Bad--There isn't really anything bad that I can think of.
So I give this one 5 Bolts!
Disclaimer--I was given this pattern as part of the pattern tour, but the opinions are all my own..it is a great pattern.

Celebratory Guest Post--Amy From Sews N Bows

Happy blog anniversary to Sew Cool For The Tween Scene! It's been a good year too; I've found a lot of good blogs, patterns, and information here. Today, I'm here to tell you about my favorite pattern: Big Girl Briefs from Serger Pepper.
  Big Girl Briefs pattern from Serger Pepper
 Big Girl Briefs have 2 rise options, & banded or elastic waist & leg openings. Sized 3-14, with nested printing. I shifted the seam to the side for this pair, in order to get the cool Rock & Republic design on there. So these undies look more like traditional panties than the original pattern.  This was the pattern that got me really comfortable with underwear sewing. My first pairs weren't as pretty, but now that I'm not afraid of any of the techniques, I don't feel I need any other patterns. I've made dozens of Big Girl Briefs variations! Rock & Republic Big Girl Briefs by SewsNBows

Celebratory Post by Elizabeth of Simple Simon and Company

The ladies over at Simple Simon don't need an introduction...but we are excited that they agreed to help us celebrate!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Wednesday everyone! I am Elizabeth, one half of the duo of sister-in-laws who blog at Simple Simon and Company. I am excited today to talk about sewing a Fall Tween Wardrobe....which is what I am working on behind the scenes in my own sewing room. And today I am giving a sneak peek at what I will be sewing for my nine year old.
vintage patterns for tweens
I know that the series is all about a favorite Tween Sewing Pattern---but I just can't pick one--so I am going to talk about how I approach sewing for my tween ;) One of the first things you need to know about me is my love for vintage patterns. I love them dearly. They are how I first learned to sew and some of the most favorite things I have sewn come from vintage patterns. Now I know what you are thinking....VINTAGE PATTERNS for TWEENS? And today I am here to tell you YES! Vintage patterns can be FANTASTIC for tweens! Here are some that I have pulled out to sew for this coming fall for Hannie and some of the reasons why.
vintage pattern1
I know this pattern wouldn't be the first choice on anyone's list of "what to sew for a tween" but I do love the classic shirt dress shape. My plan is to sew the whole thing up in a modern floral fabric and not do the collar a separate fabric. I think it will be darling with some striped leggings and perfect for the cooler fall weather.
vintage pattern3
Are you cringing? Too 70's pioneer dress for you? Well, take a look at the short version on the left. LOVE! That is the one I am planning on making. And I love the little darts in the bodice to pull it in and together perfectly for a tween.
vintage pattern2
I LOVE the shape of this darted shift dress. Again, I am thinking a bright modern fabric and wearing it with a cardigan and leggings...or even a denim buttondown under it with tights. I am really excited to make this one ;) And one last one....
vintage pattern 5
I actually have made this one before---love the shape of that top, but I am wanting to make the pants for this fall. I love the fitted shape of them and will extend the legs to make them more of a "cigarette pant" style. Can't wait for these! I have a CRAYYYZZEEE black and white print that I think will be really fun and modern for these. So, take a second look at vintage patterns for tweens, a lot of their classic shapes and fitted styles are fantastic for growing girls who don't want to look like kiddos but aren't quite ready for junior sizes. Thanks so much for having me here today! LOVE this series and can't wait to bookmark all of the patterns that everyone is suggesting.
